Crocus Sativus (The Saffron Crocus)

Grow your own saffron! Crocus sativus is lilac with deep veins and elongated red stigma. The stigmas can be harvested for one of the world's most sought after spices.

For best results, plant in a warm, sunny area using a very well drained soil.

These bulbs are autumn flowering so they will have shoots. Typically the flower comes first followed by the foliage. At this time of the year it is unlikely they will flower but they will be fine to plant to allow the foliage to grow. The leaves will put the food back into the bulb ready for flowering next autumn.
