Sprekelia formosissima
Highly recommended for its large and exotic red flowers which come through before the foliage. Can be planted in borders or pots after April or grown in conservatories as an amaryllis.
Sprekelia were originally brought to Europe by the Spanish from Mexico and have gained several common names since, such as St. James' Lily or the Jacobean Lily.
