Gladiolus Byzantinus supply plenty of late spring / early summer colour. They are a perennial bulb, featuring multiple flowering, spikey stems bearing funnel shaped flowers.
Gladiolus Byzantinus performs best when planted in the Autumn. Plant the corms 10-16cm deep in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. They are quite tall, so benefit from a sheltered location to protect them from strong winds, or they might require some support. They look great planted in groups and will spread freely.
While the Gladiolus Byzantinus are in flower, gently remove faded flowers to keep the stem looking tidy. Cut the stem back when all flowers have finished to allow the leaves to photosynthesise, providing food for the corm for the following year. They are a fully hardy perennial, so they will flourish in a sunny spot for you to enjoy for years to come with no winter protection.
