More Information
Allium Silver Spring is a half dome allium, similar to Allium Nigrum. The semi spherical head is packed with little white flowers. The seed pods are a glossy rich maroon partnered with bright pink stamen. The foliage is your usual allium belt strap leaf of waxy green. The foliage tends to die back once the flower emerges. This is a later flowering variety flowering in June and stand at about 1 metre tall. As with all alliums, the flowers last a long time and are very attractive to pollinators. It’s nice to see an allium with such unusual colours and you’ll certainly be impressed as it towers over your perennials.
How to plant allium bulbs
Alliums are great flowers for the garden. They don’t ask for a lot but give you long lasting flowers in return. They divide into nice big bulbs ready for the next year too. Give them lots of sun, and make sure the bulbs have plenty of drainage. Over winter the bulbs will not like to sit in water so good drainage is very important. Plant the bulbs 10-15 cm deep and around 15 cm apart. The foliage is quite dense and can choke out nearby plants.
