More Information

Crocosmia Lucifer is a striking and hardy flowering plant that is well-loved by gardeners. It produces vibrant red blooms atop its tall sword-shaped leaves in summertime. To ensure success when growing this beautiful flower, it’s important to take into account its particular needs.

Crocosmia Lucifer thrives best in full sun or partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Mix with plenty of organic matter in. If you live in a cooler climate where temperatures can get quite low during the winter months, it’s best to mulch the area around your Crocosmia to help protect the roots from frost damage. When planting the corms it’s important to bury them deep enough for them to be completely covered by soil.

In terms of watering, Crocosmia Lucifer needs regular irrigation during its growing season. When the summer heat arrives, make sure your plant is watered in the morning and if possible, in the evening as well. During its dormant period you can reduce the amount of water given to conserve resources.

Finally, divide your clumps every few years to ensure a more robust display of flowers – simply dig up each corm and replant it in a new spot with plenty of organic matter mixed into the soil.  Lucifer is a very popular variety with their ability to fill space.
