    More Information

Dahlia Sylvia – These orange pom pom dahlias will really stand out in full sun growing up to a metre high.

This warm orange dahlia is excellent for the middle to back of the border where they provide a pop of colour throughout the summer. They are also excellent cut flowers, so you can enjoy them indoors and out.

Cutting very early buds off helps to promote more flowers. Continue to deadhead throughout the rest of the summer to prolong the flowering period. These flowers might be small, but they will provide lots of colour from July to October.

    How to plant dahlia tubers

Plant dahlia tubers in well draining soil and keep watered without soaking as this can cause the tuber to rot. You can plant the dahlia tuber directly in the ground from late April or you can pot them up and place in a greenhouse to encourage early growth. A touch of fertiliser occasionally will promote large, healthy plants.

Hard frosts will kill dahlia tubers, but you can leave them in over winter if it is mild and you have covered them with mulch. To be safe it is often better to dig them up and store them until spring.
