More Information

Eremurus bungei – has hundreds of bright yellow, tiny, star-shaped flowers on an elegant stem.

Eremurus are also known as foxtail lilies or desert candles. They are tall, slim perennials featuring hundreds of tiny, star-shaped flowers on each spike, which gradually open throughout their flowering period of late May to July.

Eremurus bungei are a cottage garden classic, but will also work well in a more structured modern garden. They are tall, so they are ideal for the back of a flower bed.

Planting and caring for Eremurus bulbs

Eremurus bulbs are hardy perennials, they need a cold spell to initiate flowering later in the year, but they do need some protection from frost and shelter from wind. Plant them from mid-August through to as late as December, around 15-20cm deep and a similar distance apart. Ensure that roots point downwards and any shoots are directed upwards. During the Summer flowering months, they need lots of sun and good drainage as they are native to dry semi-desert grasslands.
