More Information
Snowdrop Galanthus Elwesii have larger flowers with an emerald green patch at the base. Also known as ‘giant snowdrop’, as it towers above other species.
Snowdrops provide a great, early food source for bees and native pollinators in late winter and early spring when other food may still be hard to find. But, squirrels might enjoy them too!
Where do I plant snowdrop bulbs?
Plant snowdrop bulbs in moist but well-drained soil in partial or dappled shade, similar to their native woodland habitat, in October and November. Snowdrop bulbs do well planted in grass, at the front of borders, or even at the foot of a deciduous hedge. If they are planted in a lawn, wait for the leaves to die back before mowing over them.
How do I care for Snowdrops?
Snowdrops are completely hardy perennials, and require little to no maintenance. Deadheading concentrates energy back to the bulb for a better display the following year. Snowdrop bulbs naturalise, so you might need to dig up and divide congested clumps every few years.
