Buy UK cultivated English Bluebells >

These Hyacinthoides non-scripta are cultivated in Holland, known as the English Bluebell. You can see in the photo the stock we have grown in our nursery of these Dutch cultivated bulbs. A popular, more economical option but the cobalt blue flowers tend to be slightly wider and the stems are more upright. Otherwise they are the same height as UK grown bluebells and have white anthers.

These bluebell bulbs are cultivated in large numbers, which is why they have a slightly different appearance to our native UK cultivated bluebells. This is also reflected in their price. We have these available for large contracts and big projects but we also sell in smaller packs of 50. They are a brilliant bold colour that appears later in spring. The foliage is a grass like, waxy leaf that splays from the centre of the bulb.

Bluebells propagate by seed and are great naturalisers. Be sure to plant them somewhere where you don’t mind them spreading. It can take up to six years for a seed to develop into a flowering bulb. However once they start spreading it is quite hard to contain them. A bluebell bulb’s natural habitat is amongst the humus rich soil of woodlands. This keeps the seeds from drying out and allows carpets of beautiful flowers to develop.
