Growing your Leucojum aestivum Gravetye Giant

Find the right spot with well-drained soil that receives partial to full sunlight. They can also do well in lightly shaded areas. Plant 8 to 10cm deep, in any moderately fertile, humus-rich, reliably moist soil. Allow to self seed naturally and let the foliage die down fully after flowering. Regularly weed the area around your Gravetye Giants and consider mulching to help keep the soil moist and cool. After blooming you can deadhead the flowers as they fade to promote the growth of more flowers. Every 3 years or so, you could consider dividing clumps of bulbs to ensure they have enough space to grow vigorously.

What are Bulbs in the Green?

Bulbs in the green are actively growing flower bulbs, they are usually planted in Autumn as a dormant bulb. Many small bulbs can struggle over winter, not because of the cold but because the bulbs have been out of the ground for a long time, so it can be more successful to buy them in spring. As bulbs in the green, the root system and foliage have developed, giving them a better chance to thrive straight away.
