More Information
Narcissus Elka is a small white narcissus with a long trumpet. Slightly scented and long lasting Elka is a precious little flower that will flower in April. It has the same form as the Pseudonarcissus Lobularis, a native daffodil which is becoming increasingly hard to find. But, this bulb is cultivated in the Netherlands and seems to be increasing in popularity. There is very little difference between the two as the flowers first emerge. Narcissus Elka starts off as a pale yellow flower and begins to turn white after a few days until it is a pure white all over. It has slightly twisted petals and a long slender trumpet with a delicate frill on the edge. They tend to uniformly grow in the same direction which adds to their charm.
Planting Narcissus bulbs
Plant these narcissus bulbs 8-10cm deep in well draining soil. the best time to plant daffodils is between October and November but they can be planted as late as January. Narcissus bulbs prefer well-drained soil that is moist in the growing season in spring, in full sun or light dappled shade. They will reappear the following year if you let the foliage die back naturally. To increase the bulb size remove any forming seed heads to put more energy back into the bulbs. They are ideal for the front of borders or in pots.
