Narcissus Paperwhite Grandiflora are happy grown outdoors too. Plant them in autumn for a late spring flowering time. They look great in pots but are best positioned in the centre of beds. To force these bulbs is very simple. Just plant them in a pot in late October. The pot doesn’t need to be large. You can even plant them in gravel and water (so long as the bulb is not submerged). Place them somewhere cold for two weeks below 10 degree Celsius and then move into a warm position. They will begin to grow without placing in a cold spot, but this is part of the forcing stage to trick them into growing sooner.
You can do this with any of the Tazetta narcissus bulbs and they will grow in the same way. It is tricky to get them to reflower in pots the following year. Feed the bulbs once they have flowered. Let the foliage die back and store the bulbs in a dry and moderately warm place until the following planting season.
