More Information
Papaver orientale ‘Beauty of Livermore’ is a long-established favourite Oriental poppy. Its eye-catching, deep red flowers have crepe papery petals. They are attractively frilled around a golden ring of stamens in the centre. The stems and foliage are hairy and their leaves are divided into individual leaflets. A single flower may measure up to 8 inches wide when fully open.
Plant them in full sun to partial shade where it will bloom from early to mid-summer for three weeks or longer, depending on weather conditions. While not drought tolerant, it does tolerate drier conditions when planted in well-draining soil with organic matter for nutrients.
Papaver orientale ‘Beauty of Livermore’ will reach heights of up to 3 feet and is ideal for use as an accent in beds and borders. Use it in mass plantings and naturalised areas. It’s sure to create an eye-catching display. Proper watering and deadheading spent flowers will ensure long-lasting blooms throughout the summer.
This hardy perennial requires little maintenance. Cut all the foliage after flowering. This will promote healthy new growth for the following year. With proper care, ‘Beauty of Livermore’ will provide years of fragrant beauty in any garden.
