Tulip American Dream

Tulip American Dream is a Darwin Hybrid tulip. It starts as a yellow and red tulip but the colours blend into a hot orange over the course of its flowering time, which can be around 2-3 weeks depending on the weather. A rather tall variety that can reach around 60cm tall.

Flowering in mid to late spring, Tulip American Dream grows well in borders, rock gardens and containers.

Plant Tulip American Dream in October if possible, although you can plant as late as January and they will still perform. You don’t need to feed, soak, or prepare Tulip bulbs in any way. Plant them 10-15cm deep and around 10cm apart, in well-draining soil.

Tulip American Dream grows up to 60cm tall and has large blooms, so should be sheltered from strong winds to avoid damage. Flowers will usually last around two weeks, depending on the weather.

What is a Darwin Hybrid Tulip?

Darwin hybrid tulips are a cross between single late and early emperor tulips, they typically bloom between mid-April and mid-May.

Darwin hybrid tulips are reliable performers that are tolerant of changeable spring weather. They produce big, showy flowers of the classic tulip shape in a rainbow range of rich colours from white through yellow, orange, red and pink.

They are tall, bold flowers, perfect for landscaping, or domestic flower beds and borders. The long, elegant stems also make them one of the best tulip varieties for flower arranging.
