What are Species Tulips?

Species tulips are spring bulbs that can be left in the ground to return year on year and will naturalise if left undisturbed. They are shorter, smaller and look delicate, but most Species Tulips originate from the mountainous regions of northern Turkey, and are very hardy.

How to grow Species Tulips

Species Tulip Bulbs will do best in beds and borders but can also be planted in pots. Plant around 15-20cm deep and 15cm apart, from October through to December. They will perform best in well draining soil and a sunny, or semi-shaded location, as they open wide in direct sun. Once they have finished flowering, leave the foliage in place to die back, allowing goodness to transfer back and create a strong bulb to flower again the following year. Species tulips are perennial and will naturalise if you avoid deadheading and allow them to produce seed.
