More Information
Tulip Pallada – is a sophisticated classic single tulip in sumptuous deep red. It combines well when underplanted with blue flowers such as Forget-Me-Nots. Introduced in 1997, Tulip Pallada is one of many red triumph tulips. Although many tulips have slight variations in form and colour, many are cultivated for the cut flower industry, which requires millions of bulbs. They must be a reliable product. Producing a consistent quality year after year so that supermarkets across Europe can have a uniform product. Remember that pesticides are not used in the production of bulbs. So, many varieties are bred to be disease resistant like Tulip Pallada.
Tulip flowers are cut off in production to help produce more energy into the bulbs ready for harvesting. It is recommended that tulips are lifted at the end of their life to split the remaining bulbs and replanting the bulblets that are of flowering size (at least 9cm in circumference).
How to plant tulips
Tulip bulbs like a well drained soil. It is important not to over water them in winter but keep them moist during the growing season from early spring. If planting in pots we use a mixture of garden soil, grit and loam. Compost can dry out very quickly and once it loses its moisture it doesn’t take on moisture very quickly. Tulip bulbs are often cultivated in very sandy soil.
Plant in full sun or a slightly shaded position at approximately 10cm deep. You can plant up to 70 bulbs per square metre.
