Tulip Praestans Fusilier

Tulip Praestans Fusilier are quite a large species tulip producing numerous flowers slightly smaller than a triumph tulip. A fragrant tulip bulb, they produce 3-5 flowers per stem in bright vermillion red. Praetans means excellent in latin. They fall into a small group of ‘excellent’ tulips including Praestans Shogun, and Praestans Unicum which tend to go in and out of stock year by year. They flower in April which makes them good for underplanting daffodils or for filling pots ready to kick off your tulip flowering season.

Tulip Praestans Fusilier bulbs are slightly bigger than most species tulip bulbs but still smaller than your regular tulips. You can plant them around 8cm deep. Plant in soil that retains moisture but allows excess water to run away. Species tulips are much more reliable at reappearing year after year. Remove seed heads once the flower has finished and allow the silver foliage to die completely back to ensure the new bulbs get as much chance to regenerate.
