More Information

Tulip Praestans Shogun – these specie tulips are multiheaded and can have 3-5 fragrant blooms per stem. Orange-yellow heads, with red blushing and broad silvery green leaves.

Species tulips are the smaller ancestors of modern tulips, before they were cultivated in the Netherlands.

How to grow Species Tulips

Plant Species Tulip Bulbs between October and December, around 15-20cm and 15cm apart. You can plant them in pots, beds, borders or lawns, but they will perform best in well draining soil and a sunny, or semi-shaded location. Leave the foliage in place to die back once they have finished flowering, to allow nutrients to transfer back into the bulb ready to flower again next spring. Species tulips will naturalise if you avoid deadheading and allow them to produce seed.
