Tulip Shirley – is another transforming tulip, starting with a bright white petal with a fine purple edge. As the flower matures the purple begins to flood the petal with colour. Tulip Shirley is quite a square flower but still keeps a curvy tulip shape. As a single late tulip it flowers into May and makes a great pairing with other single late tulips such as Tulip Queen of Night.
Also take a look at the double late flowering form, Tulip Double Shirley, which behaves in just the same way but has twice as many petals. Both are gorgeous flowers.
Plant the bulbs pointed side up into a hole of around 10cm deep. If you are planting lots of bulbs we recommend digging a little trench to save time. Tulips prefer good drainage, so add some grit underneath to help the water flow away. However, make sure the bulbs stay moist during the spring months.
