More Information
Tulip Toronto are jasper red with wonderful papery petals. They tend to flower from multiple stems, which is slightly different to many other multi-headed tulips. They have the potential to produce multiple stems but often only produce one. None the less they are a beautiful short tulip that flowers in April. The foliage is slightly speckled similar to that of Greigii Tulips.
Planting tulip bulbs
In Autumn, plant your tulip bulbs approximately 10cm deep in fertile, well drained soil. Mutli-headed tulips might need a bit more space between bulbs and a little extra shelter from the wind as they are more top heavy than a classic tulip.
Tulip bulbs produce a lot of roots that don’t like to sit in water, but once they start growing make sure they don’t dry out. If planting in pots, make sure they have good drainage and lots of room for the roots to develop, but ensure that they don’t get too dry.
Once your Tulips are finished, they will benefit from being deadheaded but do not remove the leaves, they need these to gather and store nutrients to flower again the following year. Tulip bulbs can be kept in the ground all year round, but they might not put on as much of a display as the previous year.
