What are Species Tulips?

Species tulips are spring bulbs that can be left in the ground to return year on year and will naturalise if left undisturbed. They are shorter, smaller and look delicate, but most Species Tulips originate from mountainous regions and are very hardy.

Planting Species Tulip bulbs

Plant Species Tulip bulbs in a well-drained soil, in full or partial sun, in October. Plant in borders, pots or grass at around a depth of 15-20cm and approximately 15cm apart, it doesn’t matter if they fall on their side. After they have finished flowering, leave the foliage in place to die back before removing, so that nutrients can feed back into the bulb to be stored for flowering next spring. Species Tulips can be left in the ground as reliable perennials.

If you would like your Species tulips to naturalize, don’t deadhead them, allow them to go to seed.
